Insulation, along with draught sealing, is often the single biggest energy saving and cost effective measure that is available to the homeowner without undertaking major renovations. Insulation can save 45-55% of heating and cooling energy using R2.5 in the roof and R1.0 in the walls (SEAV, 2003). The building code requires R2.5 for ceilings and R1.0 in walls or higher.
