Poll shows surge in support for RET

"Public support for the Renewable Energy Target (RET) has surged past 80% in the past 12 months and doubts about it have eroded, underscoring the ­difficulty facing the government as it seeks to scale back or end the scheme. ...

"Crosby Textor is the Coalition's long-term political pollster. Its research into the RET was ­commissioned by the renewable energy firm Pacific Hydro. ...

"The poll shows awareness of the RET has jumped from 44% to 59% and support for keeping it has increased from 77% to 82%. Among Coalition voters, 70% favoured keeping the RET*. 'Despite an unprecedented attack on the renewable energy industry over the last 12 months, it is very clear that Australians have made up their mind', said Pacific Hydro executive manager of external affairs Andrew Richards. 'They want more renewable energy, not less'."
